Liberty Lady in a Green Refugee Hat
Plaster Infused Paper Mache
Liberty Lady in a Green Refugee Hat was created for a show at Michigan Artist's Gallery in Traverse City, Michigan in 2017. The show was called Channeling Picasso, and featured works by over 40 invited artists based on Picasso's painting of a Woman in a Green Hat.
The hat reminded me of a boat, and a green lady of Lady Liberty. Because Picasso was often political in his art, I made this piece as a tribute to all the refugees seeking a place of freedom and safety at her door.
